  1. United

From the recording You before Me

This song was written in response to the division that exists today in our world and in our communities. This is NOT a protest or political song. The intent is purely cultural. A great deal of time is spent finding division over issues we observe. I challenge us to spend time finding unity over issues we can impact. We can't ignore the news, but we can spend more time focusing on our family and community.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
We used to talk till the daylight came
There's still a road that leads us back again.
Same front porch, same old sky
Different views, but we’re side by side

[Pre-Chorus]
Somewhere in the noise, we lost the tune
But a little light can fill the room

[Chorus]
Bring back the united in the USA
Back to the heart where we all belong
You be you, and I’ll be me
In this land we can all be free.
That’s the way our life was meant to be
We shine brighter standing side by side

[Verse 2]
Maybe we don’t need to win the fight
Maybe we just need to hear tonight
A little grace, a little give
That’s the way we’re meant to live

[Pre-Chorus]
Somewhere in the hurt and pain
There’s still a world of peace to gain.

[Chorus]
Bring back the united in the USA
Back to the heart where we all belong
You be you, and I’ll be me
In this land we can all be free.
That’s the way our life was meant to be
We shine brighter standing side by side

[Bridge]
Hands up high, let the walls come down
Lost our way, but we’re not lost now
Open hearts, let the old wounds heal
United is still what I feel

[Pre-chorus} (minimal instrumentation)
Didn't always agree, but we'd work it out
We found respect, no doubt

[Final Chorus]
Bring back the united in the USA
Back to the heart where we all belong
You be you, and I’ll be me
In this land we can all be free.
That’s the way our life was meant to be
We shine brighter standing side by side

[Outro]
Stand united…
Side by side
Stand united…
Be united in the USA

Stand United
Yea
Stand United
