From the recording You before Me

Once there was a Sunday School class for Middle School age children. The topic was teen sexuality. As I began the discussion of birth control options the main emphasis was abstinence. I young teen girl raised her hand and quietly asked me - "What if it is too late?" Turns out she had been molested by a family member the summer before. I was deeply humbled and shocked. I knew that only focusing on abstinence was unfair in these times, but I did not expect this.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I walked into the room, with a lesson planned,
Big ideas in my head, thinking they'd understand.
But her eyes met mine, she spoke so quietly,
She told her story—changed everything for me.

[Verse 2]
We all have innocence with hopes and dreams
Stories that shape us build our self esteem
Your voice matters, you can share and be free,
No judgment here, - just honesty.

[Chorus]
It's a less-en about life, a less-en about truth,
About stolen innocence, no chance for youth.
It's not always a choice, sometimes others set the tone
We will listen and accept, letting you know you're not alone.

[Verse 3]
She once danced in sunlight, laughter in her eyes,
But shadows crept in, stole her lullabies.
Now she carries silence, heavy and unseen,
Searching for comfort, from places too obscene.

[Chorus]
It's a less-en about life, a less-en about truth,
About stolen innocence, no chance for youth.
It's not always a choice, sometimes others set the tone
We will listen and accept, letting you know you're not alone.

[Verse 4]
After the less-en ended, I sat alone inside,
Laid my head down on the desk, let the tears slide.
Heavy with the stories, the truths I heard today,
Wishing every young heart could find it’s way.

[Chorus]
It's a lesson about life, a lesson about truth,
About stolen innocence, no chance for youth.
It's not always a choice, sometimes others set the tone
We will listen and accept, letting you know you're not alone.

[Bridge]
Life isn't simple, it twists and it turns,
We all have lessons that we need to learn.
When you speak your truth, I promise to hear,
Supporting your heart, wiping away fear.

[Chorus]
It's a lesson about life, a lesson about truth,
About stolen innocence, no chance for youth.
[Powerful Finish]
It's not always a choice, sometimes others set the tone
We will listen and accept, letting you know you're not alone.

[Outro]
If your choices have been stolen, if they've crossed that line,
Know You're still worthy, and strong, you'll be just fine.
