Old Man Music

I've experienced depths of medical care since the day I was born, Hernia surgery before I was a year old, urethral reimplantation at age 7, dialysis starting at age 22, three kidney transplants, 2 heart attacks, skin cancer, - --and this is nothing compared with what so many others go through. I am now 65 and sadly I have noticed a few things that have changed. As a child, the caregivers went out of their way to be caring and kind. As I got older, the attitudes changed - maybe mine did as well, but the care became less empathetic, less focused and more distant. As an older patient, I don't feel I matter as much to them. Of course, caring for children is vitally important, but age shouldn't matter. There are staffing issues and the charting has become extremely cumbersome, that I understand. I am only asking to be understood.
